As his own family has a history of cancer, Suresh Ramalingam, executive director of Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University , knows how crucial research is to cancer prevention, cures and treatment. Dr. Ramalingam also knows how difficult it is for patients and their families to navigate the disease. After serving as Winship's deputy director since 2016, Dr. Ramalingam assumed his new role July 1, and said the organization will continue to focus on various research topics, as well as disparities in cancer care.
